I've been using Outlook 2002 for years with no problems.
Now just in the last few weeks everytime I drag my emails from the host
server into my PC MS Outlook picks up one single message then errors with a
generic popup saying: "Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs
to close."
The email comes in Ok and if I hit Send/Receive (or F9) again it picks up
the next email and errors again.
I am able to to this continually until all emails are in my computer but I
can't resolve the problem.
First I tried the Detect and Repair tool under the Help menu.
Then I completely unistalled Outlook and reinstalled off my original disks.
Neither attempt has fixed the download error.

Does anyone have some other suggestions?

Do you have a virus scanner installed which integrates itself with Outlook?
Uninstall this integration part of your virus scanner and try again; you'd
still be sufficiently protected by your on-access scanner part of the virus
scanner. For more details see;
