Briefly, Outlook 2002 Outlook does not work. I can't use my calendar, do
list, contacts, nor send and receive mail.

Background: a week or 2 ago, I tried sending a large compressed file (436Mb)
via You Send It's Outlook plug in. The file stuck in outlook's outbox. I
asked YSI for help -- got an answer a few days ago saying the plug in
doesn't work on OL 2002.

Based on some observations in this forum, I was able to drag the large file
from my outbox into archive and delete it there.

That solved one problem, but others became evident. Outlook ceased
working. Based on some posts in this forum, I looked at opening my .pst
folders. However, when I tried to open a pst folder (there are 2) ,
the first one tells me this:

"Unable to expand the folder. errors have been detected in the file
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\OWNER\LOCAL SETTINGS\APPLICATION
DATA\MICROSOFT\OUTLOOK/NEW PST FILE.PST. quit all mail enabled applications
and use the inbox repair too;."

I followed this advice. The .PST and .OST files appear as broken with a
red line in the middle. I checked Task Manager and made sure Outlook,
Outlook Express, and Yahoo Instant Messenger were off. Yet, when I try to
use the inbox repair too, I get an error message saying not all mail
applications are off.

What other e-mailed applications might there be, and what should I do to
deactivate them? How do I get things up and running again, please?

I'm running Outlook 2002 on Windows XP. I'm running Norton 2008 and
Spysweeper also.

Thanks,

R

Fax software, synch software (for use with a handheld, for example),
antispyware, antivirus scanning incoming/outgoing mail are the usual suspects
when Outlook doesn't completely close down. Also check your COMs and Add Ins
for anything like Plaxo or Franklin Covey, etc. that might integrate with
Outlook. Definitely if the Outlook yousendit plug in doesn't work with your
version of Outlook, remove it.

You don't need to scan incoming and outgoing email with your antivirus, this
can be disabled. Your real time scanner will catch anything as long as it's
updated frequently enough. Even disabling your AV integration with your
incoming/outgoing mail may not be enough, you might have to
uninstall/reinstall and configure the software not to scan mail.

Then try scanning your PST.
