Hi,

I have a computer where it was joined to a domain and I added it to a new
domain. Here's the issue:
Outlook is/was configured to receive email via POP3 under the old
%oldprofile.domainname% account. Now that it is on a new domain, I cannot
retrieve the outlook files (emails/folder structure/etc) from the old
profile. I have looked in the
docs&settings\oldprofilename\AppData\msft\outlook directory and there are no
OSTs or PSTs. There is only a Office Data File and it's only 211KB. Does
anyone know of a way to get the emails back (they were stored locally) to
the new profile, %username.newdomainname%?

TIA!

This does not solve the issue. There is no PST file in that directory. That
is where I looked before. It only has an Office Data File (not a PST
extension) called Office Data File and it's only 211K in size.

PSTs and OSTs display with the "Office Data File" value as their type.

But when I browse to that location to import an Outlook Data File, it does
not show up as a listed PST. Nothing shows up.
I think I found a solution on MSFT's site. Says something about when
upgrading from 2000 to 2002, the file type changes and you need to tell XP
that the Outlook Data File is associated with the .PST extension.
I'll give that a try.

You said before, "It only has an Office Data
File (not a PST extension) called Office Data File and it's only 211K
in size." So what you said before (that there was a file in that folder)
and what you're saying now (nothing shows up) are contradictory. EIther
there is a file in that folder or there is not. Which?

And another question: are you hidding the file extensions of known file
types? That could very well be why you don't see a file whose extension is
".pst": because you're hiding the file extensions. Doing this will lead you
to seeing a file called an "Office Data File", but without a file extension.

upgrading from 2000 to 2002, the file type changes and you need to

extension.

This is unnecessary.

Ok, here's the whole story:
When I browse to the location in Explorer, I see the files.

When I browse to the location from Outlook >Import>PST, I see nothing. It
could be that known file types are hidden, but would this not apply to the
entire system? I can see an old backup PST that was done in June 2006 but
that is not the data I am looking for. I need the latest live data from that
profile.

First, configure your Windows folder options to show hidden files and
folders. Then, NEVER think that importing a PST is the proper way to load
it. Instead, use File>Open>Outlook Data File.

not apply to the entire system?

Yes, it would, but there are very few files that are tagged with the "Office
Data File" type: PSTs, OST, and NK2 files are the tree most common. On my
several PCs there are no others tagged that way.

done in June 2006 but that is not the data I am looking for. I need

I would suggest you search you entire hard drive for files ending in .pst
after enabling hidden files and folders in Control Panel>Folder
Options>View.
