Outlook 2002 not opening files named "resume.doc"

S

Steve Gilles

Hi,

I am running Outlook 2002 (XP) on Windows XP
Outlook works fine until i attempt to open a file
attachment named
"resume.doc". This has happened with many different files
with the
same name.
If the same file was named resume2.doc, it would open. The
error
message says: Cannot open file resume.doc, check your
permissions
etc.
In my opinion, this problem has nothing to do with
permissions nor
does it have anything to do with the file itself. I have
tried to open it
and also save it to disk but the same problem occurs.
I believe the problem lies in Outlook because when
forwarded to
myself, Outlook Express opens the file perfectly.

I have since made the software up to date (SP2) and have
also
uninstalled and reinstalled (though only through
microsoft's way....)

This is a bit of an issue for me as most of my attachments
are named
resume.doc

Has anyone else come across this problem before or have
any
suggestions on tackling it?

Finally, a word of advice. When applying for a job, don't
name your
resume file "resume.doc".. you want to stand out a bit
don't you?? :p

Thanks for reading,

Steve

That would be

C:\Documents and Settings\<<YOURPROFILENAME>>\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet Files\

This may be a long shot, but check in C:\Documents and Settings\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files\

I would try deleting these temporary files and see if that makes a
difference.
