Hello, everyone.

I am running Windows XP Professional with the latest
service packs and security updates.

My problem is with a component of Microsoft Office XP
Professional, Outlook 2002/XP. (Please note that I have
the latest service packs and security updates installed
for Office.)

Yesterday evening, I opened Outlook to write a message and
I noticed that there is not "Subject:" field. (Earlier
yesterday, I DID have the "Subject:" field.)

The only unusual occurrence yesterday was two power
failures that were very brief, but I was using my PC at
the time. I know that I had Internet Explorer 6 open
during both power failures, but I do not recall if Outlook
2002 was open during either power outage (i.e., if the
power outage may have corrupted Outlook).

I let Windows run its disk check both times after
restarting the computer after the two power failures.

I have looked for an option to add the "Subject:" field
back to Outlook, but I can find none. (As a side note,
about a month ago, a "From:" field suddenly started
appearing in Outlook when I created a new message, and
that field still remains, despite the fact that I did not
add it; I would like to remove the "From:" field, as well
as restor the "Subject:" field.)

Does anyone have a suggestion? I have searched the
Microsoft Knowledgebase, but to no avail.) Can I repair
Outlook?

If I must remove and reinstalled Outlook, how can I back
up all of my e-mail messages?

Thank you very much, in advance, for your help!

Cordially,

David

Open a new message and under view, click on message header to restore your
subject line and uncheck the "from field" to remove the "from field" option.

If that doesn't work, close Outlook and search your computer for the hidden
file "outcmd.dat" (sans quotes). Rename it outcmd.old and reopen Outlook.
Now try setting the To and From displays that you want.
