Hi

I have Outlook (Office XP Pro) configured to show the
notification envelope in the system tray (Windows XP Pro)
when new Messages arrive.

This has always worked flawlessly until recently.

As everyone is probably aware, there is a TON of SPAM out
there, so I have some pretty extensive rules. Most of
which PERMANENTLY DELETE the offensive SPAM (Versus
dumping it to my Deleted Mail Folder).

What I have discovered is this: When a new message
arrives that is SPAM that is PERMANENTLY DELETED, the New
Message Indicator (The little envelope in my system tray)
will not go away, regardless of what I do.

The only solution is to actually shut down Outlook and
restart it.

THERE MUST BE A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM!

Does anyone know of this illusive solution?

Thanks.

You can always display a good message and then move the cursor to another
message.

Unfortunately, the new mail icon is triggered as soon as a new message hits
your in-box, then the message rules take over. So, the junk mail options you
have instituted are one step behind the new mail indicator.

I agree that this would be a useful feature. You can suggest it to Microsoft
using the (e-mail address removed) address and put Outlook in the subject line.
They do read this mail and have implemented some of the most often requested
items, such as calendar coloring.
