Hi All,

We recently migrated from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 and some of
our Windows XP/Office XP users report that, occasionally, when they
attempt to move email from their Exchange Server Inbox to a personal
folder, the process takes a very long time or the Outlook client hangs
altogether. I have been unable to duplicate this on my own machine.

Because it happens sporadically and only to a few computers it is
difficult to troubleshoot. Has anyone seen this before and if so what
was the cause/solution?

Thanks,
Ric

Yes Rick we have seen this a lot in our company.

Here are two ways this problem has happened.

p.s. Make sure users have emptied their DELETED ITEMS
folder and their SENT ITEMS folders in their Server
accounts.

1. Customer's email (server) box size is over the quota
limit. In our case it is 100 megs per user per account.
However, your limit might be higher or lower.
Consequently they might try to move items from their INBOX
to personal and it will freeze or not respond.
2. Customer's PERSONAL FOLDERS have exceeded the 2 gig
limit for personal folders. Even if they have over a gig,
we have had many users whose systems have froze.
What we have done in these cases is to have them create an
additional .PST (personal folders) file and get them to
move some of the folders from the original PST to the new
folder. This frees up space in the original folders.

This is why you are only seeing some users with this
problem.
