Hi
I'm using Windows XP Home Edition & Windows XP Office Pro.
When opening Microsoft Outlook a message appears;
"Microsoft Outlook has encounter a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Clicking on the "Error report contains" link shows the
following:

Error Signature;
AppName: outlook.exe
AppVer: 10.0.4510.0
ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1217
Offset: 0033aed

Outlook will not allow me to send or receive any Emails,
the error message appears within 10 seconds and stops
further use of Outlook.
From reading previous posts I have tried making a new
POP3 account but it did not work.
Can I re_install just the Outlook program from the Office
Xp CD (what file name would I use) or re_install Office
XP complete

Hope you can help.
TIA
Bob C

Hi Robert,

Before reinstalling Office I would update it to the latest Service Pack 2
and hotfixes first

Hi Roady
My system is fully updated SP2 and critical updates.
Are you saying re_install Office XP to fix problem if
system is fully updated.?

TIA

Bob C

I see indeed. They changed the version indicator for Office 2003 which
caused my confusion.

I don't think it is an Outlook issue since the ntdll.dll is mentioned in
your issue. Reinstalling Office including Service Pack 2 and hotfixes
doesn't hurt though.

Are you using a machine with more then one processor or with HyperThreading
technology (newer Pentium 4)?

Hi again Roady
Running HP Pavilion 8984 1.5GHZ Pentium 4 purchased Nov
2001, ADSL broadband connection to internet. Vet
antivirus program, Mailwasher program, plus WebRoot Spy
Sweeper and Window Washer 5. all have been running ok for
2 months with no troubles.
Hope this helps.

Thankyou for your time
Bob C

So no HT P4.

Still the ntdll.dll error worries a bit as this is the file that provides
the transport from User mode to Kernel mode.

Try some basic troubleshooting to determine if Outlook or an Add-in is
causing the problem.
1) try running scanpst.exe on your Personal Folder

2) try renaming outcmd.dat to .old and restart Outlook. All the Toolbars
will reset then. This is quite a common problem with Outlook . The default
location for this file is:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

3) try recreating the profile in Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles

4) try running Outlook with the /safe switch from your Start-> Run window.
When this works run Help-> Detect and Repair

5) try disabling individual add-ons in Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button
Advanced E-mail Options...

Thanks Roady, will try out your troubleshooting
suggestions and let you know what fixed the problem.

Thankyou again for your time and trouble.

Hi & a big thankyou Roady
Completed all your suggestions with No.4 safe switch &
Detect and Repair fixing what ever was wrong. It asked
for the Office CD and completed the repair OK.
By the way before I tried your suggestions, I switched
over to my guest user and openning an Email account and
was able to download my Email's from there, worked ok.
I removed that account, went back to my nornal logon and
started on your fixes.
Hope it helps you understand what ever was wrong with my
system. Can I view a log or run a windows program to help
me see/understand what was fixed.

Thankyou again for your time and very helpful suggestions.

Bob C

You're welcome! Good to hear the problem is solved! There is an install log
but I don't think you can find anything in there concerning a repair. Also
this file is an about 10MB text file so it won't be a fun job to through
that anyway ;-)
