Outlook 2002: Cannot remove a folder created within the Contacts folder

A couple of months ago I have created a couple of folders within the
Contacts folder because I wanted my contacts to be categorized so that I can
jump from one category to the other when selecting names in the TO field of
a new message (Outlook categories unfortunately do not allow this).

But I had to get back to categories because my PDA (running Pocket PC) does
not support subfolders in the Outlook Contacts folder...

I then removed the subfolders I had created in the main Contacts folder.

My issue: when I create a new mail and click on the TO field my old
subfolders still appear in the "Show names from" field but if I select one
of them I am prompted with the following message:

"The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened;
it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions. For
information on how to remove this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see
Microsoft Outlook help".

I could not find anything in Microsoft Outlook help.

My question: would anyone know how to get rid of these subfolders?

Hint: I already tried to remove and add again the Outlook Address Book. It
did not help.

Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

Just remove them here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change.

BTW, removing and re-adding the Outlook Address Book would have worked too.
You must not have restarted Outlook in between.

Worked fine. Thank you.

By the way, is there any possibility that my contacts get listed per
category when I hit the TO field when creating a new message? All my
contacts are flat in one huge list and I lost the advantages brought by the
categorization. I am afraid this behaviour is by design... Can you confirm?

No can do.
That's why most of us use Contacts folders instead of the Outlook Address
Book view. All the sorting and filtering functions have been built into
various views of the Contacts Folders. No functionality has ever been built
into the Outlook Address Book.

As I said. No.
The Outlook Address Book cannot be sorted or filtered.
As I said, if you need extensive filtering or sorting, use the Contacts
Folder to select recipients then create the message with Actions ... New
Message to Contact.

You lost me.

I am using the Contacts folder exclusively. Is there any way I can sort (or
change the views) when entering mail recipients at the time I am creating a
new message? Contacts get listed by name and this is it.
