Outlook 2002 appointment sent to public folder calendar gets puts in someone elses calendar instead

My manager regularly works from home and puts the days he does this in
advance into the IT Shared Calendar, which is in the public folder, and
to which everyone in the IT department has publishing editor rights. He
places the appointment into his own calendar, sets the time as 'out
of office', adds 'IT Shared Calendar' as a required attendee, and
then sends this appointment. The appointment appears in his own
calendar correctly, but bizarrely enough instead of being inputted into
the IT shared calendar within public folders; it appears in the
calendar of the help desk manager instead, which is completely useless
to everyone else in the department.

Is there any reason why this appointment gets sent to another user's
mailbox calendar instead of the public folders IT Shared Calendar? I
really am puzzled.
 
Sounds like there's a delegate set somewhere or maybe even a folder assistant on the PF.

Here's another method for him to try: For these home work days, create the appointment directly in the IT Shared Calendar and invited himself as a required attendee.

He had one delegate which I have since removed (though she was not the
person who was receiving appointments instead of the IT Shared Calendar
Public Folder). The (incorrect) recipient of appointments has no
delegates

Although your suggestion of putting a meeting direct into the shared
calendar is a good one, my user does not want to do it this way as if
an attendee declines or updates the meeting, the message will be
returned back to the Shared Calendar rather than the user himself.

I dont know anything about 'Folder assistant', what's that?

Any other suggestions gratefully received.
 
One more thing. I was incorrect in my original description. When he
puts the appointment into the shared calendar it DOES APPEAR after all,
but it appears in the other user's own calender too.

The Folder Assistant is a feature of public folders, managed from the Properties dialog, that allows a folder to be set up so that a moderator has to approve every new item. Your symptoms suggest this folder might be moderated.
