Outlook 2002 and can't connect to POP3

I have Outlook 2002, running on a Win2k Dell laptop and I can connect to the
MS Exchange ok, but I get the error that Outlook cannot connect to the
incoming and outgoing servers. I have deleted the mail account and redone
it, checked the server names, check the port values and it still doesn't
work. I can setup the account on another machine and it works fine.

The server is running MS Proxy Server on Windows NT. I am not sure what to
do at this point. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

RB

Make sure that the ports (110 for POP3 and 25 for SMTP) aren't blocked on
the firewall and that you have Proxy Client installed.

Indeed, this is the RPC port that Blaster uses. It was a good practise to
block this port at boundary level to prevent infection.

Roady, I am able to access the POP3 mail on 3 other machines, so I don't
think it is being blocked by the firewall. I have checked in the Proxy
server and the clients are all configured the same. Are you saying to
install the Proxy client on the computer that is not working? Should I
recreate an account and try it from there first? Thanks for the help.

Bill, I am able to access the POP accounts on 3 other machines. It is just
getting frustrating. The mail works fine on 3 other machines in the office,
I only have the problem on one laptop.

Can you describe your network configuration?

For instance;
Are you trying to connect with a laptop to an external POP3 server from
within your network?
Are you trying to connect with a laptop to an external POP3 server from
outside your network?
Are you trying to connect with a laptop to your Exchange server by using you
POP3 server from within your network?
Are you trying to connect with a laptop to your Exchange server by using you
POP3 server from outside your network?

Also disable the virusscanner and/or firewall on the laptop and see if it
works.

Do you get any error messages?

Port 135 is *not* used for authentication for either POP or SMTP - that
happens over the standard POP and SMTP ports.

Roady, I have disabled and uninstalled the Antivirus, the only message that
I get is when I try to test the account settings and the Send Test fails and
the Incoming and Outgoing fails.

The laptop is accessing the Exchange server with outside POP3 account from
within the network.

Could it be a problem with the Proxy client setup? The thing is that it was
working before and it quit after they had loaded some HP printer drivers. I
cleaned the drivers, registry and tried again to no avail...
