My contacts show up under my personal folders, but when I
try to find them on the To button for email there is
nothing there. I have checked in the Properties section
for the Contacts folder and the box designating the
Contacts folder as the email address book is checked.

I have the same problem, only the "To" button produces a
list of my contacts, but can't find the ones that have
email addresses.

Please advise if you find a solution

This occurred after the last time I updated my software
from the microsoft update center. Some help.....

Please provide details: What address list are you looking at? Did you do
anything other that upgrade?

What folders are listed under Outlook Address Book?

Only upgraded windows office. I use word as my email
editor and when i click on the "To" button i get a list
of my contacts to enter, but the list does not include
all of my contacts that have email addresses. if i
search for the contact using find, it does find the
contact with email address in the search and i can then
add the contact to the "To" portion of the window......

Are you using the same .pst file or did you import data? What folder are the
contacts in that you're not seeing in the address list? Have you checked the
properties of that folder?

I imported a .pst file from my other computer. I would
like to know where outlook keeps those files. I can't
find them on my machine except in the documents and
settings folder and then no contacts folder only an
outlook folder and archive folder. Why isn't there a tab
to relocate the folder for these files so that they are
easy to find, update and archive.....?

Instead of importing, try opening the copied file directly using the File |
Open | Outlook Data File command. Then, right-click the Contacts folder,
choose Properties, and check the Outlook Address Book box. Do the contacts
appear in the address book OK after that?

Outlook can store a .pst file anywhere on your system. See
http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm for info on default locations.

I tried your suggestion opened the file and the outlook
address book box is permanently (shaded) checked. I
cannot change it. All of the contacts appear in
contacts. It is only when i try to click on the "To" tab
in word during creating a new email that the full
contents of contacts fails to appear. It doesn't find
most of my email addresses to post in the "To" of my
email. they are all in contacts, but word seems unable
to find them when creating a new email.

That's a symptom that the Outlook Address Book may not be active in your
profile. Choose Tools | Email Accounts | View or change existing directories
or address books. If the Outlook Address Book is not listed, add it. If it
is listed, remove it, restart Outlook, add it back in, then restart Outlook
again.

I am using outlook 2000 and do not have a view or change
directory tab.....I have tools, accounts, email.....

Open a few individual contacts. Are the email addresses underlined? If not,
that's a symptom left from the import. Try pressing Ctrl+K to resolve and
underline the address.

Nice that the import function works so seemlessly.....I
have about 3500 contacts in the address book. Is there a
way to press ctrl+k for all of them or is it one by one?

Just checked, they are underlined and ctrl+k doesn't help
at all. Same problem persists. email addresses are not
shown in the "to" window when editing email in word.

Greg,

experiencing similar/same problem here. Please do the following chec
to verify if we have the same problem:

In the address book, make a search for one of your missing contacts. I
should return the desired email address. It this is the case, we d
have the same problem.

I am now wondering if you have successfully corrected the problem, o
if you're still trying to find a solution to it.

I will keep working on my side to try and find a solution, and if
succeed I will make a posting here for you and others.

Regards, Thori
