A couple of years ago someone installed Outlook 2000 under Windows 98 and it
worked very well until today when I can no longer send messages out. Instead
I get a message reading:
Some errors occurred while processing the requested tasks. Please review the
list of errors below for more details.

The message could not be sent because it rejected you as the sender. Server
Response: “550 5.1.8 invalid/host-not-in-DNS return address not allowed”.
(Account “mail.optonline.net”, SMTP Server:”mail.optonline.net”, Error
number 0x800ccct8)

1 of 2 tasks have completed successfully

Your ISP is likely blocking all SMTP relaying through a different mail
address. The following MSKB article describes the problem in detail:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300897

You may be able to get around this by turning on authentication to your
outgoing mail server, which you can do on the "Outgoing Server" tab for your
mail account.
