Outlook 2000 will not shut down properly

I have a Windows NT machine with Off2k installed. It is a
dog and runs so slow. Cannot remove outlook/office and
cannot service pack office - which I am not too concerned
about. The issue I have is that when I close outlook it
closes but keeps the screen - "Please wait while outlook
closes". This screen never goes away. If I try to go into
outlook at this time it won't let me

The only way to get around this is to go into task manager
processes and kill of any instances of the outlook.exe
process.

I realise I could get serious with this machine and go as
far as blowing it away to resolve the removing/service
packing issues, but if anybody knows away to force outlook
to shutdown unconditionally and not hang I would be much
appreciated

Cheers

Stephen

Since you mentioned you see more then one outlook.exe process I expect that
one of your add-ins is causing this and doesn't want Outlook to close. These
add-ins could be spamfilters, synchronizing software or firewalls and
virusscanners. Disable those and see if it still happens. If not you'll need
to update or reconfigure those programs.

There is only one Outlook.exe process running. I
mentioned that Outlook does not show up in the running
applications.

Roady I don't know who Lew is and he did not post the
original message I did

They were my words, however I typed them incorrectly.
There is only one instance of outlook.exe process in the

I would) you could e-mail me directly at (e-mail address removed)

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for clearing that up :-)

Have you tried my suggestions already posted in the first reply? It isn't
very common that Outlook doesn't close on it's own. Practically always this
is caused by an add-in. Once disabled or updated the problem is gone.
Sometimes the add-in are not shown in Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button
Advanced Options...-> button Add-In Manager or button COM Add-ins. If this
is the case you'll have to disable the integration option in the program
itself (like in Norton AntiVirus 2002).

Outlook should always close normally in safe mode;
Start-> Run; "path to Outlookexe" /safe

Note that posting your real address to a newsgroup is asking to be spammed.
Better is to munge it a bit like (e-mail address removed)
