Debbie

Every time my outlook 2000 check server for mail, it asks
for my password even tho I've told it to remember it.
I'm running Corporate or Workgroup on XP. There is a
solution for this with Outlook Express, but I can't find
anything for outlook. Thanks for any help!

I have 4 email accounts in outlook and I regularly get
prompts for the password as if it weren't saved in the
settings.
I've tried the service packs, editing the registry
(protected storage system fix for outlook express) and
such to no avail. I've even reinstalled my entire os,
nothing seems to work for long. Editing the registry
seems to work for a time but not long enough and the
problem is I have a ton of email that needs to download
24/7 and it can't download say at 9:30 when I'm in bed
and it's prompting for the password. Email gets backed up
and that's a problem!
My server says it's not a problem on their end and to
contact microsoft. So here I am....and I really hope
someone has a solution to this problem because I see i'm
not the only one with this problem

thanks Lexi

Hi Lexi,

I have not tried this yet (time for bed), but wanted to
pass on the solution below that came from:

Remembering Outlook / Outlook Express Password
Submitted 1/26/02
On systems, Outlook or Outlook Express will not remember
the e-mail password,
which would then need to be entered in each time.
To solve the problem:
1. Open Registry Editor
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft
3. Right Click Protected Storage System Provider
4. Choose the Permissions option
5. Click the Advanced box near the bottom right hand
corner. This should open another box, Towards the bottom
of this box there should be two tick boxes, make sure
that both of them are ticked. Click Apply, another box
will open Click Yes, then Click OK and OK again.
6. Left Click the + next to Protected Storage System
Provider and Delete any sub folder in this tree. (Right
clicking and choose the delete option or press the delete
key and choosing yes to delete)
7. Shutdown and Restart Computer.

Good luck! If you try this tonight, let me know how it
works. I'll have to wait til my 2yo's nap time tomorrow
afternoon before starting.

Debbie Hi,
I've done that...it's a toss up as to if it will work or
not...I actually tried the one for outlook express and
had some luck for about a minute...so it doesn't work
