I keep my .pst files on a mirrored Netware server for safety but some of
the associated files that appear to control my shortcuts and who knows
what else is stored on my workstation hard drive. I would like to have
all these files on the server since I occasionally use my wife's work
station.

TIA

Maybe slightly OT, but note that MS does not recommed storing a PST file on
a network drive. What about keeping it local, and using something like
SecondCopy (www.centered.com) to make scheduled copies to the server?

There are two reasons for being on the server. First is simply reliability.
Our machines are never off and the drives are accessed regularly by a program
that does scientific data processing during quiet periods. My machine has gone
through 4 Fujitsu drives in 6 years. Netware 4.x mirroring provides an instant
backup so loss of even one message is almost impossible.

Secondly there are times that we access the pst from other machines and since
Netware 4 is not a peer to peer I cannot access the host unless it is the
server.

It has worked very well on the server, I just wanted to eliminate (read lazy)
the necessity to periodically reconstruct the shortcuts. Machine upgrades now
involve transplanting drives to the newer motherboards so Windows only has a
minor fit when it wakes up to a new home. The entire Office package keeps all
the data on the server and only the programs on the work stations.

Thanks for the input.

There's a much greater risk for .PST file corruption when accessing it
through a network connection as opposed to your local drive.
