Outlook 2000 shuts down when using Address book

My PC is running XP (SP 1) and Outlook recently started shutting down whenever I try to locate an email address toward the bottom of the list. Actually, the elevator button won't go down past the halfway mark. Attempting to force it to the next address closes the entire program. Alternately, if I type the name I want to send email to directly into a new note and press Alt-K to check the name, this also shuts down the entire program and closes the new email as well. Does anyone have any idea what's causing this? Thx a lot!

No one knows, but it's a common problem that Microsoft says they cannot
reproduce. Theories range from a corrupted address in the list, to a
corrupted address book service and finally to outdated video drivers. See if
any of those apply to your case and let us know.
