When Outlook sends/receives mail, the "Send/Receive
Progress" box appears. Then it does not close so I must
close it. I have checked the box that says "Don't show
this dialog box during send/received," but it still
appears. A solutioon wouldbe greatly appreciated - - even
if it means going into the registry. Thank you.

Post your mail support mode.
Have you tried closing it while the poll is in progress rather than
afterward?

Unfortunately, I am on a coax line, and can't seem to
catch it before the downloading is completed.

I have two e-mail accounts. One is MS Hotmail, an HTTP account. The other is
Roadrunner, a POP3/SMTP account.

Then you would have to be using Internet Mail Only mode.
If you remove the HTTP account from the profile, does it then function
normally?

Yes. I tried that because I figured I could live without
hotmail. It did not make a difference. Thanks so much
for you staying with me on this; it is really a pain.
Since I can't seem to fix it using the proffered, standard
Outlook aproach, I'm hoping I can find a registry entry
that I can alter.

It's more of a pain than you know.
Almost no one is using IMO mode any more and I have no partitions running
it. We may be out of luck troubleshooting this unless we can find someone
still running that long abandoned mode.
BTW, have you considered upgrading?

You're probably correct about upgrading. By the way, what is IMO mode? Thanks again for all of you effort.

Russ –

See Solution under topic with subject of “Outlook Help..please!!†by author “tworiders;†Millie Staple’s reply. It worked for me.

In what newsgroup?
Find turns up no such post.
Bear in mind I must use a very primitive newsreader, Outlook Express.

Hello Bruce,

I feel your pain! I have tried all of the remedies that have been
posted i.e., registry configurations, status bar adjustments etc. I
may have accidentally stumbled upon something that I never noticed
before and it may solve our problem – even though it was not designed
to work to our benefit.

In the lower-right-hand corner of the dialog box is an icon of a
push-pin facing sideways. Upon clicking on this icon, the pin will
toggle between a profile view (where it should be when you first view
it) and then to a rear view – as if it were pushed into a cork board.
As I understand it, this is to keep the dialog box visible and not let
it disappear after performing the Send/Receive function. At this point
- I personally wish to never see it again!

Well, I have toggled this pin to the "pushed-in" position and then
have closed the dialog box and IT STAYS CLOSED DURING SEND/RECEIVE!!!!
(keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that I am not jumping the gun
on this one)

Give it a try and see how it works for you. I am anxious to know if
this could be the solution to a very annoying problem.
