Earlier this year I upgraded my company Email server from Exchange 5.5
to Exchange 2000. Since then we have had Outlook 2000 on different
Win 2K workstations on our network begin to slow down to the point
where it will take up to 5 minutes for it start and then another 5
minutes to open or send an email. This is not happening on all our
computers at once but is progressing through the network. Until now
we have been able to correct the issue by renaming the user profile
and then creating a new profile. Outlook reinstalls and from that
point on Outlook works without any further problems. But as you can
imagine, there are some systems that you can't do this with as it
would take two more days to set everything back to the way the user
needs it.

We have tried uninstalling Outlook and Office 2K and this didn't work.
All our workstations are P3 1gig or better with 256K of RAM or
better. I know that resetting the User Profile and/or the Outlook
reinstall is the key here but I have no idea what to even look at.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

How did you migrated the users to the new server in the first place?
Somewhere they must have been configured to use the new server. If
recreating the profile solves your problem you can automate Outlook to
create a new one with certain settings. For this you'll need to install the
Office Resource Kit and use the Custom Installation Wizard to create an
prf-file.

Also check referers to the old server. A simple thing like a birthday in a
Contacts details that still points to the calendar on the old server causes
slowdowns as well.
