Hi

I have a problem on three or four of our machines when
trying to open Outlook. We us HP openmail as a mail system
but use a MAPI to download mail into Outlook 2000. This
works fine but recently I have had a similar error on a
few machines where by when the user attempts to open
Outlook they get an error message saying "Outlook.exe has
generated an error and will be closed down". The point
that this occurs is after the HP Openmail pop up window
appears for inputting their password. They click OK at
which point Outlook should be populated with the .pst
information but it comes up with the error stated.
I have tried reinstalling Outlook and also tried
reinstalling the OpenMail MAPI neither of which worked. I
have also tried recreating a new outlook profile with a
clean .pst file but am still getting the same problem.

Help Please!!!

Try switching Outlook to Internet Mail Only mode and then back to
Corporate/Workgroup. You might have a corrupted DLL file that deals with
MAPI calls and this switching of modes might rewrite the file.

See Tools | Options | Mail Services. Button is at the bottom to switch
modes. Make sure you have the installation media handy because you will be
asked for it in order to complete the switching of modes.

If the above fails, you will need to track down the dr. watson log file and
see what type of error is causing the crash. You might have to start
Outlook is safe mode (start | run | outlook.exe /safe | ok button) to see if
it is a corrupted view, toolbar, or 3rd party addin like HP Openmail that is
causing the problem.
