My outlook seems to be running even though it has not been started.
OS=Windows 2000 Professional
Outlook 2000 SP3.
Even from a fresh powerup or restart, Outlook is not in my startup menu
folder, it will give me notifications that new mail has arrived.
I know that the experts say this can't be done but it is driving me crazy
and my email is being cleared off the server due to it.
This machine is also running PC Anywhere 10.0.3 (for remote access) and
WinFAX Pro 10.02 all the time to handle these services.
Other outlook symptoms are:
Not deleting files (after a while in my deleted folder even though option is
selected.

Occasional fatal error and I get a message that outlook is shutting down
even though it is not running.

Outlook may not restart, foring a restart to clear.

Thanks

Why would you not suspect WinFax Pro?
Look at your add-ins. Bet it's there.

Russ, Thanks for the reply but I am not sure what you mean here by add-ins.
Can you be more specific, sounds like you have heard of this before.

Years ago (back when it would work with Outlook), WinFax Pro was the most
common reason for Outlook's running in the background.
Look in your Add-in manager for the WinFax Pro extensions (Tools > Options >
Other > Advanced Options...)

Russ,

I guess Win Fax Pro 10 is different then what you recall or from the version
you are familar with as after Tools|Options there is a menu of items which I
have looked through especially the "Email and Outlook Integration" listing.
Nothing is there that relates to this problem. Besides this used to work
fine, it is only recently that things have gone amok and I did not upgrade
WinFAX from the original install. Any other ideas?

No other ideas needed.
WinFax Pro is the problem. It always is.
I still don't understand why you think it isn't.

WinFax Pro is by far the most common cause for this behavior. Even though
one update might fix it, the next will cause the problem to return. I doubt
Symantec has done anything to keep current versions compatible with the
outdated versions of Outlook like you're using. You can look at other COM
Add-ins if you want and synchronization software, but if I were you I'd be
checking with Symantec.
