I have a user who is connecting to outlook over a vpn connection to our
exchange 5.5 server. He is having problems while receiving microsoft excel
attachments. Once he tries to open the attachment his outlook client
crashes. The attachment is approx 1.5mb in size. Is the size a problem, or
is it something else that could be causing the problem?

Make sure you have all of the latest patches/updates on
the exchange server, and also make sure the user has all
of the latest updates for Microsoft Office.

My users connect through a Win2k VPN and use Outlook to
connect to Exchange 2000 Server. We often have Excel docs
larger than that with no problem.
However, after installing Exchange 2000, we had to upgrade
to SP2 right away, just to get it to function correctly.

Also, if the user is dialing up, make sure they have the
flow control (in advanced modem properties) set to
Xon/Xoff, not hardware control. For larger files, this
will allow the modem to pause and let the processor catch
up when it gets behind.
