The only thing I can see is the opening splash screen. Outlokk 2000 not starting at all

When I used the Office CD to "Repair" my install, it gave me errors looking for 2 file I could not find

C:/config.MSI/PT3150.TMP and PT8071.TMP

Can someone help?

Also, if I delete outlook.exe and install again, will I still have all of my contacts, calender items and saved emails

Thank
Arthur

Yes you could uninstall Outlook 2000 and attempt another install. Your personal folders file (pst) will not be deleted in the uninstall. But you could always back it up just to be sure if you want to. In Windows 2000 it is usually located here:

C:\Documents and Settings\%profile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook where %profile% is the account used to log into Windows 2000 as. Or just search *.pst. They are specific to Outlook.

But the issue of not being able to find those files implies that when C:\config.MSI was made (this happens when we install an application that uses the Windows Installer Technology) the Windows Installer was not working right. Normally this happens when some of the files necessary for the Installer are not available. Since you are doing this from a CD-ROM the best I can think of is the CD-ROM is broken.

This could also happen by having permissions set too restrictive on C drive of your sysytem. But in that case config.MSI would never have been able to be made so my verdict is it's the CD-ROM.

Your comment about having permissions set too restrictive is interesting. I installed, a long time ago, a patch from the MS site that was too make my Outlook more secure. But since then I have not been able to recieve a lot of different attachements like exe. The permissions are actually set to be very low, yet Outlook behaves like the permissions are very high. If you know how to uninstall this patch, then that may fix a few of my Outlook problems.

I really don't think the CD is the problem because it is the original store bought CD used to install MS Office - I had it for years and used it many times before

Please feel free to email me directly.

CD-ROMs can have issues where they are not necessarily broken. You can wipe the CD-ROM with a cloth that doesn't shed and see if that helps.

The patch you installed cannot be uninstalled. Other then removing Microsoft Office entirely. But I don't know if even that wiill work.
