I am trying to copy and paste new Master Category List (MasterList) values
to Microsoft/Office/9.0/Outlook/Categories on Windows 2000 machines. I have
been able to locate this key on several without any problems, but on others
I either cannot locate the key at all (even though Outlook is installed and
operational) or it appears after a period of time (also after closing and
opening and searching on possible values and closing and reopening, etc.).
Any assistance with this problem would be greatly appreciated. (W2K w/ SP4)
Office 2000.
Thanks,
Cathy

The list is only in the registry if you add to it. So on machines
where the default list hasn't been added to the key isn't there. Also,
if you ever move to Outlook 2002 or later the key is now a Binary and
the contents are in Unicode (a 00 every other character) instead of a
String value in ANSI as it was in Outlook 2000.

Well, this is strange since we haven't added the category list to any
machine. Are you saying we can create it on the ones where it isn't present?

Yes, you can use a .REG file or code to do it. I use code for that all
the time.

We were able to cause it to appear in the registry by adding a new category
to the Master Category List. Thanks.
