I have been running Outlook 2000 on a Win XP Pro system
for two years. There are two administrative logons. My
wife's and mine.

For several days, Outlook freezes on opening when my wife
is the user. When we switch users, I can send and receive
with impunity.

I have run detect and repair on both Outlook and Word
(the e-mail edit option). I have scanned for viruses
using the latest version McAfee's Stinger and have
removed the few spyware programs.

Rebooted several times.

Try deleting or renaming the outcmd.dat file on your wife's profile only
(you should each have a separate one of these files), while Outlook is
closed. This is the file that stores toolbar customizations, and when it
becomes corrupted, Outlook can't use it at startup to build the toolbars,
thus causing the hangups. Renaming the file might be the best idea if your
wife has a lot of customizations that she'd prefer not to lose; that way, if
renaming the file doesn't solve her problem, you may be able to restore it
later when you do get Outlook working properly again.

Note: Since you're using Windows XP, you'll need to search in hidden and
system folders to find the outcmd.dat file.
