I want to compile an email address-only file (say in Excel) from my Outlook
(2000 version, that came with my Palm PDA)'s contacts. However, the export
function doesn't work. It asks me to put in an Outlook 2000 Premium CD, which
I suppose the one from Palm isn't, as it doesn't work. Is there a simple way
out, or do I need to upgrade Outlook?

If I can take the labour to copy email address manually, there is another
problem that many (not all though) email address typed in are automatically
displayed as the contact person's filed name. So, when I copy an email
address, I need often to open the address book to locate the name, click for
details, before I can do the copy and paste work. Is there any setting I can
make to make it display email address as it is? Or if there is an easier way
to do the copying work?

1. It asks for installing the import/export engine. After I put in the CD, it
seems to look for Outlook Premium CD. It didn't get through. A message reads
something like it's looking for DATA1.MSA, but cannot find it.

2. I've read your replies to other questions re displaying email addresses,
rather than filed names. However, I can't:
a) find any tab that I can alter the view option, or
b) successfully change the display format of a particular email address,
after I double click an address in an individual's card. An error message
says I'm not allowed to do it.

Pls advise.

1. You need to use the same CD from which Outlook was originally installed.

2. You can add the E-mail field to any list view of your Contacts using
Field Chooser (R click the Column headers to bring up Field chooser).

Thanks very much indeed.

Q1 is fixed. I mistook taking the standalone Outlook CD for the purpose, but
the program was intalled via another Office 2000 CD, and I may have sometimes
reinstalled Outlook using the Outlook CD since then. Now, I feed the PC with
the Office CD. It works.

Q2 is still unsolved. The current contacts view includes the email field
already, but many (not all) contacts entries display the person's filed name
(which corresponds to Outlook's "EmailDisplayName" field I found from the
exported xls file), instead of the actual email address. I'm interested to
know how to fix it to facilitate daily operation, though your advice to Q1
has basically solved my most urgent need.

Thx.

If the Email field does not contain the actual email address then your
importing was mapped incorrectly.
