On a toshiba laptop, with a fresh install of XP Home, I have tried 3 times to install small buis with outlook 2000. It will not open .PST files from other machine. When I look at the .PST file it has no icon associated with it. A look in file extensions and there is no .pst or .ost. How can this be. I am going nuts trying to find out why. Have done all updates. I made sure all components of outlook have been installed. Something in setup I missed. I just did this on a desktop and had not problems.

Update: AFter doing al the updates Idiscovered that I do hqave a listed file extension for ,pst files but it stil doesn't give me an icon, just that blank microsoft look. Kinda like looking at someone who is dead. anyway I was able to import my data from another pst file but still doesn't open a pst file directly. Still no icon. I guess this is useable for my client but something isn't all the way correct. Don't know where to go from here.

You don't need an icon, and in Outlook 2000 none is expected. Just open it
with File | Open | Personal Folders file.

Well, I ran a Norton systemworkd scan and it said mapisrvexe neede a gapi32.dll to run. Put in the file and from what i can tell the .pst files now open normally and they now show an icon. Was this it?
