Sometimes Outlook 2000 hangs when opening, it can take 5-
10 minutes to open. If you look at task manager it says
that Outlook is not responding, but if you wait 5-10
minutes it opens and works fine.

This is on a network, with Exchange server, and all the
clients are using W2000, and this happens intermittently
for all of the clients.

Has anyone experienced this and found a cure?

If all other programs on the network are working OK and with good speed,
then the problem is either Exchange or Outlook. If some of the users are
doing fine, it's likely that Outlook is the culprit (unless you have
multiple exchange servers).

Make sure everyone is archiving and periodically emptying their deleted
items folder. It sounds like some of the more frequent users have allowed
their .pst files to get too large.

99.99% of the time this is caused by a name resolution issue. In other
words, Outlook can't find the Exchange server. The easiest fix is to add an
A record in your DNS server for the Exchange server in the form of

exchangeservername.yourdomain.ext

like exchange1.ourcompany.com

Outlook will find the Exchange server via DNS and the problem will be gone.
If you want to prove this, add a HOSTS file entry on an affected computer as
described above and see if that fixes it.
