I have been unable to get Outlook 2000 to start up in anything but the
default folder.
I have MS OFFICE installed D: so the path is

D:\MSOFFICE\OFFICE\OUTLOOK.EXE brings up Outlook

I'm slowly going bonkers trying to get the flippin thing to start up a
folder called 173 or 183 off the main root of Outlook Today, Inbox, 173

Alternately I have tried making a short cut to another folder of 173 and 183
but the Hyperlink tool in Excel says it "Can't resolve 173, it may not be a
valid link" Clicking on the link brings up the folder in Outlook perfectly.

I've tried
/select
/folder
/select folder
/path

etc ... all to no avail.

Appreciate any help you can throw my way !

Thanks in advance,

Norm

Further to this:

D:\MSOFFICE\OFFICE\OFFICE.EXE /select outlook:173
works fine at the RUN command but for whatever inane reason, EXCEL can't run
it linked from a cell. Go figure.

Just tried that, and several different paths etc, no joy.
It's getting very frustrating. Highlighting the appropriate folder in
outlook and dragging it into another directory by itself results in a
shortcut like 173 with no extension. However, the default is .xnt. Either
way, double clicking on it results in Outlook loading the folder perfectly.
However, I want a link in Excel to be able to bring up the folder.

i.e. my wife runs a parking lot, and she keeps records of each patron in
Outlook. I want her to be able to click on a parking spot number .. say 201
and it will bring up the appropriate record in Outlook with
names/addresses/employers etc.

So far I'm not having any luck with any command line switches ! I can use
the hyperlink feature in excel to run d:\msoffice\office\outlook.exe but it
only results in loading Outlook. Then she still has to manually select the
folder with the information.

Doesn't seem to be much info on linking cells in Excel with clients/folders
in Outlook !

Norm,

I used the following command line to have Outlook default to a folder called
"173" which is a root folder under my Exchange mailbox.

Outlook.exe /select outlook:173

I see you tried something similar, but have you tried the above syntax yet?

Hope this helps.

Norm,

I got the hyperlink to work between Excel 2002 and Outlook 2002. The only
thing I had to put in for the hyperlink was:

Outlook:173

I did not need a path or command line switch.

Hope you can get this to work.
