Outlook 2000 Closing unexpectedly in 'TO:' dropdown

Hi,

I have a user who's Outlook 2000 (9.00.6627) closes unexpectedly when
searching his contacts via the 'TO:' button. His workflow is as follows:

Opens Outlook
Clicks new message
Clicks TO:
Changes 'show names from:' to Contacts
Types 'H' or 'I' to get to the respective entries

At this point the system appears to hang breifly, then Outlook closes
without any messages or errors. There are no entries in the event viewer
during this time.

The user can view contacts fine. Running the inbox repair tools revealed no
errors. Exporting contacts to a CSV reveals no obvious corruption. I've
been able to replicate this on a number of different computers (XPSP2,
2003TS).

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ken

This is a very common problem which Microsoft claims they cannot reproduce
and therefore cannot solve. Anecdotal reports claim the following may help:
1. Look for and correct a corrupt address in the Contacts displayed in the
Outlook Address Book (especially if the crash at the same place when
scrolling).
2. Remove then re-add the Outlook Address Book Service or, better yet,
create a new Outlook profile.
3. Update your video drivers.

Most people seem to find no solution.
