Outlook 2000 Address Book stopped displaying contacts, what to do

I closed Outlook while downloading a large message, when Itried to reopned
it, it would not open. So I rebooted and then opened was able to open
Outlook, but 2 things happened. One, the address book was empty (some 400
contacts). And #2, Outlook created a new "Outlook Today" with all new default
folders for Inbox, Sent, Delete, Calender etc.

My original Inbox, etc. Folders are still there with the email messages in
them, but all new incoming messages go to the New Inbox Folder that is
farther down the directrory tree. I am not able to delete these new folders
or stop messages from going there.

Also I need to find the address book contacts. I assume they are still in
the .pst folder but the Address Book doesn't know the path or created a new
Address Book just like Outlook created new mail folders?

Any advise?

Thanks.

You corrupted your profile.
Create a new one. Whether you can or not depends on your version, which you
have not posted completely. There are 2 completely different versions of
Outlook 2000. Which are you using, Corporate/Workgroup or Internet Mail
Only?

I am responding to my own post to explain to anyone else who may read this
post how the problem got solved.

I have two Outlook Profiles, the original and the one that got created by
Outlook when I shut down Outlook while it was downloading a large file
(dial-up).
The second Profile with all new Inbox, Sent etc files also had a blank or
new Address Book. Also it became the default ( the new Inbox) location for
new messages being delivered. I thought I had corrupted my original Profile
and that it was gone, but no I had not.

It just became hidden farther of the Outlook directory tree. I opened up the
+ sign and there were all my personal files that I had created for certain
messages.
To get the original to become the recepient of new messages I clicked on the
Properties of the first, original "Personal Folder" and selected a box for
receiving new mail.

This changed which Profile operated in Outlook as the default. Also this
gave me back or displayed my original Address Book with all the contacts.

Nice Christmas present.

Sorry. I missed your follow up post.
Actually, with IMO, you can't have two profiles. IMO can only use one
profile.
You simply corrupted your PST file then figured out a way to repair it.
The standard approach to this would have been to run the Inbox Repair Tool
on your Outlook Data File, which you should still do because it likely still
contains errors.
