I recently updated to Office 2003 from Office 2000. While I really
like Outlook 2003, there is one change that really bugs me. I really
wish that when I was creating an email, I could type in the name of my
contact, and then right click on it, and then select the desired email
address if I prefer to use either #2 or #3. In Outlook 2000, I NEVER
used the "To" button, and being forced to do that is lame.

Further...I am experiencing a bug right now with this that makes it
REALLY icky. I have a contact who has two email addresses. I used to
use the secondary address more, but for the past year I have used the
primary email address more frequently. With Outlook 2003, whenever I
type in her name, the secondary email address ALWAYS appears. I
thought that after I used the primary email address a few times,
Outlook 2003 would adapt and default the primary address, but it
hasn't. Frustrated, I actually REMOVED the secondary address entirely
from the email #2 field in my contact record. Outlook 2003 STILL
defaults the removed email address when I type this contact's name. So
now I have to ALWAYS click the "To" button for this particular
contact. (By the way, I also deleted all emails in my PST for which
the unwanted email address was used. This has also not solved the
problem.)

Blech! Does anyone know - is this a known Outlook 2003 bug? Has anyone
else seen this strangeness? Any workarounds? Thanks!

Sounds like you should just be using autoresolution instead of
autocompletion. Enable the former, (Automatic name checking), disable the
latter (Suggest names...).
Both options are in Advanced E-mail options...

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Both options were enabled, so I disabled "suggest names" as you
indicated, and that seems to have solved the problem. Phew!

Sometimes new features are hard to get used to, but many users are finding
that they actually prefer autocompeletion to autoresolution. It takes a
while to populate autocompletion cache, but once you do, it obviates much of
the need for autoresolution.
