Summary of hardware:

Pentium 4, 1 gig. memory
All scsi (39160, adaptec)

Summary of software:

xp pro service pack 1 and all critical upgrades
xp office pro all critical upgrades.

Problem:

after a few hours outlook slows to a crawl scrolling through e-mails and
reading them. if i reboot the computer the scrolling and reading are back
to normal speed.

no other program is slowed down at all.

have archives and compressed archives.pst and outlook.pst

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

While it's not the typical pattern of the problem, see if going to Tools ->
Options -> Other and turning off Instant Messaging integration helps.

none of these suggestions have helped: i've unplugged norton office plug-in;
turned off "line spacing;" and killed instant messaging integration. No
soap.

very, very strange.

i am running nothing special. mostly office programs and internet explorer.
all are, as i said, upgraded.

event viewer reports no hardware or software anamolies nor does system
properties, hardware.

i don't crash, burn or choke. only outlook gives me trouble.

and btw, i can't run scanpst.exe: i get an error message that says outlook
or other programs are running. i can't find any, after closing outlook and
windows messenger, in the task manager list.

i am flummoxed all around.

any more suggestions?

thanks.
