I've tried to live with it but It's finally worn me down.

Is there any known cause /cure for Outlook rendering so lowly in the reading
pane that you can't be sure whether what your reading is actually related to
the e'mail you selected without checking the header....

It may also be related to the fact that the unread e'Mails number doesn't
update in the tree after I've moved e'Mails until I reboot....

We have no idea what you are talking about - define "rendering so lowly"

Is it slow after a reboot? Mine is also slow at times but a reboot helps. I
don't know of a sure-fire fix at this time.

My message count is correct to the best of my knowledge - I'm pretty sure it's
a different, unrelated issue.

Render:
To draw an object to the screen.
The processing a computer undertakes when creating an applied effect,
transition or composite
To interpret the contents of a document, image, or other file so that it can
be displayed or played back on a computer
To transform digital information in the form received from a repository into
a display on a computer screen, or for other presentation to the user
etc...

Slow:
without speed

When clicling on / Selecting a new e'Mail item in the Folder List of Items,
the "Reading Pane" displays a previous unrelated message for some
considerable time (can be 10+ sec ) before updating the reading pane and is
slow in rendering the contents of the -selected- e'Mail Item. ( even with
plain text messages. )

Hope that makes it clearer.

Reboot helps ( and is the only way to get the message count to update
correctly ) but it quickly degrades...
