I was initially having a problem getting my e-mail from the ISP (Comcast) to
Outlook Express. A Comcast rep explained how to type in "mail.comcast.net "
as the incoming mail server (POP3) and that solved the problem. But
everytime I turn off the computer the address changes back to something like
126.0.0.1 and I dont get e-ail at OE anymore although the mail is on the
Comcast server. OE is designated as the mail program under Internet Options.

How can I make OE "stick" as the mail site? Thanks

Do you have an antivirus program that checks email as it comes in? If yes,
that is very likely what is changing the name of the mail server to a local
IP number. Essentially the a/v program becomes the "mail server" (also
called a "proxy") using that local IP number. After checking your mail for
malware, it passes the messages on to your inbox.

Turn the mail protection portion of the antivirus off. You may need to
enter mail.comcast.net once more but OE will then retain that name.

While it would seem this is a security issue, your real time antivirus
protection is still protecting you against bad attachments. In other words,
the mail protection is a redundant layer and in some cases will actually
cause problems in sending and receiving mail.
