Hi - is there a limit on the number of levels of rows/columns I can
outline in Excel (i.e. using Rows.Group)? I am getting an unidentified
exception after 8 levels, but I don't see any reason for Excel to not
allow more then that. I am using Excel 2003, but I'm interested in
answers for XP and 2000 as well.
thanks!

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for posting in the community!

From your description, you can't add more level then 8 in the Excel not
only for the row but also the column.

Excel can only supports at most 8 level for the outlining. So far as I
know, this is the same in Excel 2000, XP and 2003.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further question. Our
pleasure to be of assistance.

Have a nice day!

Hi Matthew,

Based on my research on this issue, we don't have any feedback indicating
that users need more than 8 levels of outlining, as the feature has existed
for more than 10 years. It will be greatly appreciated you tell me your
detailed scenario and the requirement for this.

Look forward to your update! Enjoy a nice weekend!

The scenario is that users need the outlining to display a hierarchy of
fields from a database along the rows axis. This way, they can collapse
and expand to see the data that they want. Even the sample database
that I am using to develop the worksheet on has more then 8 hierarchy
levels which exposes the limitation in outlining. (i.e. World->Western
Hemisphere->North America->USA->Midwest->Ohio->Cuyahoga
County->Cleveland->East Side->43rd Street Store)
If this will be fixed, please let me know. Otherwise I will have to
develop something to work around this shortcoming.
thanks,
-Matthew

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for replying!

I am not sure whether this feature will be included in the future product.
Anyway, appreciate your suggestion on Excel.

Enjoy a nice weekend!
