I have tried everything but get this message - I want to stop using aol's
email but use windows mail with aol ISP. AOL have not been very helpful, any
help would be greatly received.

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject '', Account:
'imap.aol.com', Server: 'smtp.aol.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '556
CLIENT AUTHENTICATION REQUIRED. USE ESMTP EHLO AND AUTH.', Port: 587,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 556, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

Check your account settings with these directions:
http://www.postmaster.aol.com/imap/express.html

In particular, note the requirement to have the option
"My server requires authentication" enabled.

In Windows Mail, go to Tools, Accounts, select the imap.aol.com
account, Properties, Servers, and you will see where you can
select that check box.
