Can receive email, but I cannot send it!!!!
Can anyone help??

Call your isp have them walk you through putting the correct server
settings in your email client.

This is the exact error message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject '', Account: 'Home', Server: 'smtp.att.yahoo.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F

It does this every time I try to send something, whether I've just opened
WinMail or it's been open for a while.

Turn off email scanning in your anti-virus and test. Are you using MacAfee or Norton?

I have Norton, but I do not even have it turned on.

Uninstall Norton and do NOT replace it with McAfee.

Then remove the account and close WinMail.
Reopen WinMail and add the account bact.

having same problem. Just got off phone with isp, we even deleted Norton &
turned off windows firewall- no help.

Error message as follows;
Connection to server has failed. Subject 'Fw;words and meanings; accounts
mail.optonlone.net server. Protocol SMTP Port 25 secure(SSL); No, Socket
error, 0060, Error # 0x800cccoe

Thank You!! This seemed to work. Now the only problem I have is when I open
WinMail it gives me a Security Certificate cannot be verified... message.
Any idea about that?

Message reads;
Connection to server has failed. Subject 'fw;words and meanings; accounts
mail.optonline.net server. Protocol SMTP port 25 secure (SSL): Socket error
00060, Error # ox800cccoe.

I have had the same probelm - sending messages through Windows Mail. I've
read through all the posts and tried various things. This link got me to my
answer and I wanted to thank you for that. I needed to change the setting
for the ports and add a few check marks to some options. It works perfectly
now - even with McAfee scanning turned on!!!! thanks again for providing
the great advice.

I just fixed a very similar problem. Make sure that you have checked "My
server requires authentication." It is under tools - accounts - properties -
servers.
Hopefully that will help you. good luck

You're welcome. I would caution you, though, to keep McAfee's
mail scanning feature turned off. Sooner or later it will corrupt
the message store database. Some have reported no relief
of symptoms until McAfee was completely uninstalled.

The error message looks paraphrased instead of an exact copy.
Some parts are missing, like the outgoing server name. Also, the
account name "mail.optonlone.net" has a misspelling, it probably
should be mail.optonline.net. Although the account name is cosmetic
(it has no effect on anything), it could be symptomatic.
Please post a verbatim error message (right-click, copy).

That error will happen if you use SSL with a server that has an expired
security certificate. Make sure none of your accounts uses the older
(non-att) server names, and that your incoming server name has been
switched to the new name: pop.att.yahoo.com.
