Hi Tamsin,
The most common reason that OE wont semd mail is that the outgoing mail
server (SMTP server) you have configured just won't take your mail, or the
settings you have aren't quite right.
If you go to OE menu, tools, accounts, then locate the mail account you have
listed with (default) next to it, click this then the properties button. Then
select the servers tab.If this compares with the infromation your ISP has
given you, then carry on as below - if not (especially if the Outgoing Mail
(SMTP) server is blank) then check the settings from your provider and enter
them in this location.
We can go on to test the settings some:
Make a note of the information on this page (OE mail/Servers - not this one
on Microsoft!), then close the OE windows.
If you are using Windows XP, 2000 or NT then goto Start - Run then type CMD
then enter, in ME or 98 Start - Run - type COMMAND then enter
You will need the entry from your mail account property page here - the
entry from the outgoing mail (SMTP) box - enter where (server name) is below
type
TELNET (server name) 25
then hit enter. You should get something like this:
220 maxio11.uk2net.com ESMTP UK2.NET - UK's Biggest Host Sat, 04 Sep 2004
00:59
:25 +0100
if you get a response anything like this then the server itself is available
- it may be that you just don't have permission to send here - please check
that you are connecting to the same ISP for your internet access as you are
trying to use to send mail through - and that your from address is correct.
If you are still having problems, post here with the ISP name, SMTP server
name and a sample error text & I'll try & help some more.
Regards,
Jasin
