outbox appears empty. but has unread msgs number next to it....

My outbox appears to be empty, but there is a number next
to it denoting unread or unsent messages.

This is also causing a send error.

How do I purge the outbox if there are no messages to
select?
 
I am currently viewing "messages with autopreview"..
my oubox is empty, but has a number next to it in the left
pane denoting that i have messages.
