I am an experienced PC builder of 10yrs or so. I have been travelling for the past year so I havnt got a clue what happened in the world of PC hardware.

The last PC I built was based around an ASUS SLI board,939 3800, chip and 7800GT card.

Any links bringing me upto speed would be great

Cheers

I am an experienced drunkard of 37 years or so.

The last drink I had I haven't got a clue what happened but I woke up in a greenhouse surrounded by tomatoes in a remote part of Essex.

Basically, Asus, DFI & Gigabyte motherboards rule atm, Intel Dual Core 2 CPU's are the best atm with AMD's AM2 series still a viable option.

Nvidia 8800 series video cards rool if you're into gaming.

Beefy, modular PSU's are the order of the day, 600W minimum.

Other than that, browse this forum, maybe do a search, tons of info here.

Also see my sig :)

That flopp's is funny and had me rolling on the floor in stitches...:D

As for you captain pants take a look at some of the overclocking forums and you'll soon be up to speed with whats out there at the moment, thats new and everyones fiddling with...(did I say that right)...

Ha Ha Floppy

The last time I was really really all day bender drunk I bet that I could get from Portsmouth to Paris for less that £20. I did it with change as well!

Thanks for the advice. Any worthwhile games on the scene? I read the reviews on Vista. Seems that the jury is still out on this one. Is it worth waiting a while for true DX10 cards etc before making a decision?

Cheers

Bill & Paul have released software that requires you to have a very quick CPU, plenty of RAM, 60GB+ hard drive & a lot of money to buy over priced software.

However Microsoft have yet to realise that more people now look at "Free" software like, Linux and Opera & Firefox and Open Office due to the high cost of their pricing of software.

As for games, well Theme Hospital is still at the cutting edge for training those who want a career in the NHS.

Like it Feckit!

Dont worry I still use the aforementioned 'free ware' as standard! Plus others from the you know where sources. I hate being one of Bill and Paul Gimps. Mind you sometimes it is worth it just for the split second when your rig is working and Far Cry is looking beautiful!

I hear Counterstrike is the game of choice for all of the London counter terrorism officers. Ow that was a bit close to the truth!

To be honest i'm not a gamer, but instead of faster pc's with one cpu there seems to be now dual core and soon to a store near you quad core cpu's.

Great for gamers & crunchers, more info HERE
