out of office reply

i am using out of office reply..works good internally but
if someone from the outside sends and email the out of
office reply is not sent. any ideas would be appreciated

Probably because your IS/IT department doesn't want your account
responding to spammers. When you take vacation, someone is supposed to
handle your job duties while you are gone, so there's no point in the
company's customers knowing you are gone. Talk to your IS/IT department
of whomever administers your mail server (Exhange?) and ask them
regarding their policies.

that's the default setting. there very good reasons NOT to allow Out of
Office to reply to external mail - it will reply to all spam, apart from
anything else....
 
Could also be that the rule has been set to sit locally rather than on the server. When you create a rule you have the option to have it sit either on the server on locally - check to make sure
