Out of office assitant

My wife is starting a new business venture from home and is used to many
features in Outlook from her old company. I've learned that some feature are
not available because our home computer is not set up using Microsoft
Exchange Server, but an Internet mail service. Is there any way around
this?? Can I set up a single home computer to utilize MS Exchange Server?

You can but the cost-benefit would be WAY out. You may find that your ISP
has a "vacation" message service on its webmail server.....
Otherwise you can set up a rule to replicate this. But, be aware that doing
this would entail your PC being on 27/7 and Outlook up and running
24/7......

Sorry no - I'm the other side of the pond....
 
If you check the Preferences from Comcast.net you will see an option for auto-reply. This would be the closest you can come to Out of Office Assistant without Exchange.

In addition to the other replies - perhaps she should look into a hosted
Exchange account. Plenty of companies offer them nowadays; I have a friend
who loves www.mailstreet.com. Then she gets full Exchange with no in-house
admin requirements - she can use OOF, OWA, wireless activesync to a
handheld, whatnot, as well as accessing her mailbox over the internet
securely using RPC over HTTP(s).
 
Yes, a thing of the future as many companies don't want the hassle but need the benefits. I have seen many of them cropping up lately, and expect more with Exchange 2007 in the mix.
