Out of office and spam

Out of office auto reply works too well and tries to
respond to the spams that get past the corporate spam
filter. Since many times they are trying to ID valid
email addresses so they can pound us some more, this is
not a good thing.

Is there any way to customize the behaviour of the out of
office reply feature?

I would like to tell it to send the out of office message
only to addresses at the same domain as me
(@mycompany.com) or to addresses in my personal (or
corporate?) Outlook address book. This would be a good
thing.

If this is not available (like I expect) how can I suggest
this to MS in a way that someone would actually see it?

Sorry, fogot to give details
Windows 2000, Version 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack3),
Outlook 2002(10.4219.4219) SP-2

No, see my reply to your other bit of misinformation. Out Of office Reply
DEFAULT is NOT to reply to internet mail and most Sysadmins will NOT (for
good reason!) set it otherwise.

Unfortuantely there isn't any way to customize the out-of-office tool in
that way. If your Exchange server is configured to allow auto-replied to
the Internet then it's an all or nothing kinda thing.

As for sending a suggestion they'll see; e-mail it to (e-mail address removed)
and make sure you put "Outlook" in the subject line.

Well, "misinformation" is a bit strong, I am only
reporting how my company's Outlook works. If it can be
cofigured not to send the Oot of Office Reply to public
internet that is great and when I can find out where and
how this is set you can bet I'll be contacting my local
Outlook administrator with the information. Thank you for
bringing this to my attention.

That's the DEFAULT setting - so your admin must have changed it!

Thank you for

Tom,

I don't know if this suits you or not, but you could set
up a rule instead of using the Out of Office feature. You
can make a rule that responds to incoming messages with
certain text in the sender's address (@mycompany.com) that
replies using a specified template.
