For almost a year I have had no problem with my Canon N670U scanner. All of
a sudden the HP 5P printer yellow light is on and I see the message "out of
memory" when scanning a letter with 3 sentences is complete. The memory is 2
million. Any idea what is going on? Any suggestions what to do to correct
the problem. Thank you, Ed

I believe the HP middle yellow light just means there is still unprinted data
in the printers memory (which you should be able to print and clear by
pressing the first button on the 5P).

Out of Memory usually means the disk is full.

Check how full your hard disk is (double click on My Computers to open it,
then RIGHT click on the drive C: icon, and then the Properties menu will show
disk space used and remaining). The Disk Cleanup button also there will
likely empty many MB of disk space, temp internet browser files, other temp
files, Recycle Bin files, etc.

2 MB printer memory should be plenty for text pages, the printer is not likely
the problem.

With my Epson scanner and computer running under W98SE I find that a
copy of everything I scan to file gets left in the Windows/Temp
directory and has to be cleaned out manually. You might be having the
same problem.

Another cause can be the printer properties settings. Some settings
can cause the printer to print in graphics mode when what you really
want is text. I would suggest going through the printer settings and
changing everything to the defaults until you get it going again.

Also, with the HP printer you have to set the memory amount manually.

But, if the light stops blinking and is just steady yellow usually it
is in the computer/software and not the printer. Try it at a lower
resolution just to test it and see if freeing up more disk space will
help.
