I am sick and tired of websites that alter my IE browser. Every time a
website hides the navigation controls or resizes a window it ticks me off.
Can IE be configured to ignore these aggravating elements of websites? My
browser should never be resized and my menu bar, standard buttons, address
bar and status bar should never be hidden. I want the control!

Hi,

AFAIK the size of the IE window is not altered by any website. It's just the
user (you) that closes a tiny window (a popup) as latest window. Like all
well-educated Windows programs, IE retains the size and position of the
window that was used latest.

As for the buttons and menus: maybe you are referring to popupwindows that
display without them. This is what you can do:
- install a popupkiller like Google Toolbar
- disable Javascript, so that popups are no longer possible (but quite of
bunch of other thgings won't work either)
- install Windows XP Service Pack 2 - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/oe/

Kind regards

Hi Dodo :-)

Try the following for the toolbar and see if it helps:

Reset IE Toolbars
http://toolbar.google.com/fixmenu

Toolbar does not stay locked

And...for the Windows problem you can try the following:

IE New Window Maximizer 2.4.0.1 - Free
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1746
(Uses Windows API calls and automatically maximizes every browser window you
open)

There's also AutoSizer - Free, here:

Hope this helps

In that case you will have to disable Active Scripting
and be prepared not to be able to see a lot of content.

A slightly awkward compromise might be to activate Active Scripting
conditionally (by setting it to Prompt instead of Enable) but then
be prepared to have to reply to a lot of prompts, making a Yes or No
decision each time.

AFAIK there is no way to disable just a few functions from a scripting
language which is essentially what you are asking for.

Another aspect of your problem is that most of the symptoms
are caused by web applications which employ popup windows.
FYI XPsp2 has a feature which allows you to control just that.
You can also get third-party solutions for this. Again, though,
please understand that either would be a compromise between
the complete control that you imagine you want and some
practical usability issues.
