Out Going Mail Error

Email has worked fine until this week. I can receive email but not send. The
following is the error message displayed.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'Re: Smoke ,
Account: 'earthlink.net', Server: 'earthlink.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '550 Authentication required. Help at
http://www.earthlink.net/go/emailsettings', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
 
From the number of posts on this subject, MANY people are having this problem.

I have Windows Mail and McAfee virus protection. I managed to finally send
out emails by momentarily disabling email protection in McAfee. Before
closing McAfee, I got a message that warned I was not protected, and at that
point was I able to specify that only outgoing messages did not need to be
scanned for viruses.

How embarrasing for McAfee and Windows.

Besides not having the correct server name, are you connected to EarthLink?
