Remote user has vpn client installed and connecting fine. I have the hosts
file configured correctly on his machine. However I cannot connect outlook
to the server. I have had the same problem with another remote user using a
USB connection to his cable router. I got rid of his USB cable and used
cat5/Rj45 and his connection worked fine. This remote user is also using a
USB connection on a XPP OS. The Lan settings are correct and the connection
settings in Outlook are correct (for non USB connection that is) Is there a
trick to configure Outlook to use a USB Lan connection? Thanks!

USB or CAT5, it doesn't matter as long as it's a network connection. Outlook
w/Exchange will use the available Internet connection if you go to the
advanced properties of the Exchange server service, connection, "connect
using my local area connection" and make sure the Internet connection is
live before launching Outlook.

I'd suggest that these folks get a little firewall/router to make the
Internet connection for them - makes it easier, and considering how easily
hacked broadband connections are, you don't want anyone connecting to your
network via VPN unless their own networks are protected - don't know which
VPN client you're using, but if it has the option to disable all non-VPN
traffic when enabled, that's a good thing. Otherwise, firewall time.

Hi Aaron,

Thank you for the posting.

Based on your description, it looks like a VPN connection issue.

In order to verify this, please let me know if the Cicso VPN works. If
not, please let me know what happens when you are trying to connect.
Please let me know the exact error message word for word. Meanwhile,
please understand this may need to engage Cisco for resolution since it is
not manufactured by us.

Please also check if you have any router or firewall configured. Some
router has built-in firewall which may result in connection issue.
