Here is my issue or question rather, I have vista ultimate OEM, I have
already activated it through the internet and Microsoft. Thing is now I want
to format my hard drive but I'm afraid if I do that and try to reinstall
vista, it won't accept my product key as valid because I already registered
the product key under the comp I'm about to format. Any advice, I just want
to make sure how this whole activation thing works before I format my drive,
and i don't want to get screwed over into having to buy another copy of vista.

You can reinstall Vista on the same computer as many times as your
little heart desires, although you may have to phone activate.

He will definitely have to phone to activate.

Someone has already posted in another MS newsgroup that they have
succesfully done this. They did have to contact Microsoft as it denied him
electronically but as soon as he spoke to a rep they asked him security
questions about his machine and its authorisation codes and they let him do
it.

if you're unsure then contact Microsofts support department by phone, they
will be able to tell you the same and are more qualified to tell you what
option to take than me :-p

It's not necessary, if you reinstall on the same machine you can activate it
through internet just fine, I did activate 5 times on the same computer
without a problem. I don't know if there's a limit but so far I can safely
say 5 times for me with no problem. And don't ask me why I activated 5
times on the same computer. Some people might think I really hate my
harddrive and just kept reformatting the heck out of it for fun. No it's
not fun to reformatting your system and reinstall everything.

Everyone else I've seen try that says they can't do it over the internet
more than once because it tells them their product code is already in use
so they have to phone instead.
