I think it was back on windows 3.11, but i'm not sure. It was turn based,
you could move your ship, fire a photon torpedo or fire phasers, and you
moved around no a 10x10 grid or something like that, I remember there were
sveral very similar games like that. Does anyone know where I can find that?

Sounds like Star Fleet Battles, a turn based board game that was
re-created for the PC. I first played it on the C-64, but it was not
freeware...we paid for it. I have heard of freeware based ones, but the
one or two I tried were lame. I gave up on looking.

The one I played in my C-64 days was very neat...you could build and
modify your ships, play different races, multiple players as well as AI.

Yes, what I'm looking for is similar to EGAtrek, but it's for Windows. I
found a few such games for dos, but none for Windows

Wow.

Not sure about wintel but...we used to play Xtrek in the labs something
fierce back in the '90's. This was on Unix Xterms though. Fun. Quite.

(It appears xtrek still exists and that it does, indeed, run on wintel.)

Would it be "Star Trek, 25th anniversary" edition? It came out around 1991.

i used to play this game WAY back in the day on my old (okay, now VERY
old) cbm 32! ('commodore business machine' that had no hard drive and
booted into 32k of ram. all programs/games were on those big floppies
or from tape cartridges!)
